Bathroom Installation in Louth (Drogheda, Dundalk, Ardee)

Bathroom installation and refits in County Louth: new suites, walk-in showers, wet rooms and en suites, with the plumbing behind them done properly. Most of the bathroom problems people put up with for years, a weak shower, a slow drain, a toilet that keeps running, start in the pipework rather than the tiles.

Planning a bathroom

Bathroom installation in Louth: get the plumbing questions right first

The finish is what you see, but these decide whether the new bathroom actually works:

  • Water pressure. Is the house mains pressure or gravity fed from an attic tank? A rainfall shower on a gravity system needs a pump, or it will disappoint.
  • Hot water. A big shower or a bath needs enough hot water behind it. The cylinder or boiler has to keep up.
  • Drainage. A walk-in shower or wet room needs enough fall to the waste. On a concrete floor that has to be planned, not hoped for.
  • Ventilation. Good extraction stops mould and peeling paint. Plan the fan with the layout.

If an old shower tray or bath has been leaking into the floor, it is worth having it checked before the new bathroom goes on top. See leak detection.

Adapting a bathroom for a family member? Louth County Council runs housing adaptation grants for older people and people with a disability, which can cover accessible bathrooms. Check eligibility with the council before work starts.

Bathroom work

Bathroom installations we are asked about

From a full strip-out to a shower that finally works properly.

Full bathroom refits

Strip out, new pipework where needed, new suite, and a bathroom that is usable again as soon as possible.

Walk-in showers and wet rooms

Level or low-threshold showers, planned around the drain fall and properly waterproofed.

En suites

A new en suite in a spare room or under the stairs, with the waste route worked out before anything is bought.

Shower upgrades and pumps

Electric, mixer and pumped showers, with the pressure and hot water checked so the new shower performs.

Accessible bathrooms

Level-access showers, grab rails, comfort height toilets and space to move, planned with the person who will use it.

Leaking trays and baths

A failed shower tray or bath seal replaced properly, with the floor underneath checked.

Before you buy the suite

A few things that save money later

Buy nothing until the layout is agreed. A toilet that cannot reach the soil pipe, or a shower tray with nowhere for the waste to go, turns into extra cost on the day.

Ask for a written quote that says what is included: removal of the old suite, pipework, waste, the suite itself or fitting only, tiling, electrics and making good. Bathroom quotes vary most in what they leave out.

1. Send photos and ideas

The current bathroom, what you want, and any problems with the old one.

2. Check the plumbing

Pressure, hot water, drainage and access checked against the plan.

3. Get a written quote

A written quote listing what is included, so you can compare like with like.

Bathroom Installation questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bathroom refit take?

A typical refit takes from several days to a couple of weeks, depending on how much is changing, tiling, and drying times. The quote should give you an expected time.

Do I need to buy the bathroom suite myself?

Either can work. Some people choose and buy their own suite, others prefer it supplied. Say which you prefer when you ask for a quote, and agree the layout before buying anything.

Can I have a walk-in shower in any bathroom?

Most bathrooms can take one, but the drain needs enough fall. On a concrete floor that can mean cutting a channel or raising the shower area slightly.

Will a rainfall shower work in my house?

On a mains pressure system usually yes, if there is enough hot water. On a gravity system it will normally need a pump.

Is there a grant for an accessible bathroom?

Louth County Council runs housing adaptation grants for older people and people with a disability. Check eligibility with the council before starting work.
