Central heating installation, upgrades and repairs across County Louth

A heating system is more than a boiler. It is the boiler, the pipework, the radiators, the pump, the valves and the controls all working together – and when a house is cold or expensive to heat, the fault is very often not the boiler at all. We look at the whole system, tell you what is actually wrong, and quote for the work that will make a difference.

Central heating installation

Complete heating systems for new builds, extensions and older houses that have never had one. Correctly sized boiler, correctly sized radiators, and pipework laid out so every room actually gets heat.

Heating system upgrades

Bringing an older system up to date – a new condensing boiler, modern controls and proper zoning. This is the work that shows up on your fuel bill, not just on the thermostat.

Radiator installation & replacement

New radiators, extra radiators, and swapping out rusted or undersized ones. We size them for the room rather than fitting whatever fits the old brackets.

Power flushing

Years of sludge and rust collect in the bottom of radiators and block the pipework. A power flush clears it out, so radiators heat evenly again and the boiler stops working against itself.

Zoned heating & controls

Separate zones for upstairs, downstairs and hot water, with timers and thermostats that actually get used. One of the cheapest ways to stop heating rooms nobody is in.

Heating breakdown repair

No heat is treated as urgent, day or night. Pumps, valves, thermostats and boilers diagnosed and repaired – see our 24/7 emergency plumber page.

Signs your heating system needs attention

Heating problems creep up slowly, so most people put up with them far longer than they need to. If any of these sound familiar, it is worth a look:

  • Radiators cold at the bottom. Classic sludge build-up – usually a power flush.
  • Radiators cold at the top. Trapped air. Bleeding them helps, but if it keeps coming back there is a bigger problem.
  • One room never gets warm. Usually an undersized radiator or a system that was never balanced.
  • The house takes hours to heat up. Often circulation or pump trouble rather than the boiler.
  • Banging or gurgling pipes. Air, sludge or a pump running too fast.
  • Hot water and heating cannot run separately. An unzoned system heating the whole house to run a bath.
  • Bills climbing with no change in habits. Efficiency is slipping somewhere.

Where the savings actually come from

People assume a new boiler is the answer to everything. Sometimes it is. Often it is not, and there is cheaper work that does more:

  • Proper zoning, so you stop heating empty rooms
  • Thermostatic valves on the radiators that need them
  • A power flush, so the boiler is not fighting sludge
  • Balancing the system so heat is shared evenly
  • An annual boiler service to keep it efficient

And if the boiler genuinely is past it, changing an old boiler for a new condensing boiler could save you up to 30%.

Gas, oil or a mix – we cover all of it

County Louth is split fairly neatly. Most of Drogheda and Dundalk town is on natural gas, while a lot of Ardee, Louth village and the rural townlands run on oil. Our plumbers are RGI registered for gas and OFTEC registered for oil, so whichever you have, you are talking to the right people.

If you are switching fuel, extending the house, or putting heating into a place that has never had it, ring us and we will come out, look at the property and give you a free no-obligation quote. Solid advice first, price second – and no pressure either way.

Thinking about grants? Home energy upgrade grants in Ireland are run by the SEAI, and the rules and amounts change from time to time. Check the current schemes on the official SEAI website before you budget for a job – and we are happy to talk through what work would be involved either way.

Heating questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is power flushing and do I need it?

Power flushing pushes water and cleaning chemicals through your heating system at high flow to clear out the black sludge and rust that builds up over the years. You probably need it if your radiators are cold at the bottom but hot at the top, the water is black when you bleed them, the boiler makes banging noises, or the system is slow to heat up. It is usually far cheaper than replacing radiators.

How long does a full central heating installation take?

For a typical family home, allow a few days from lifting the first floorboard to the system being commissioned and balanced. It depends on the size of the house, whether pipework already exists, and how many radiators are going in. We will give you a realistic timescale with the quote – not an optimistic one.

What does zoning my heating actually do?

Zoning splits your system so upstairs, downstairs and the hot water can be heated independently. Instead of firing the whole house to warm one room or run a bath, you heat only what you need, when you need it. On an older unzoned system it is often the single most cost-effective upgrade available.

My radiators are cold at the bottom. Do I need new ones?

Usually not. Cold at the bottom means sludge has settled inside, and a power flush normally brings them back. We would always try that before quoting you for new radiators. If a radiator is genuinely corroded through or badly undersized for the room, we will tell you that too.

Do you repair heating systems as well as install them?

Yes – pumps, motorised valves, thermostats, timers, leaks and boiler faults. Heating breakdowns are treated as urgent, and we run a 24/7 emergency service across County Louth for exactly this.

Do you charge for a heating quote?

No. We offer free no-obligation quotes on all our work, and there is no callout fee. We come out, look at the system, and tell you what we would do and what it would cost.
